Prague isn’t just a good place to sample hearty Bohemian dishes and the country’s fine wines and beers, thanks to its large and longstanding Vietnamese population since close ties during the Cold War, it’s also a good spot to try Vietnamese cuisine. One of the first Vietnamese restaurants to open in Prague and having built itself quite a reputation since its opening, Madame Lyn is located on a beautiful street in Prague 2, a little way out from the New Town. On our visit, we were quickly seated at a quiet table with views out onto the leafy street outside and ordered a couple of beer margaritas to get us started – rather unusual but a nonetheless satisfyingly sweet cocktail.
For starters, we ordered the grilled mussels and chicken satay, which both had a satisfying level of spice and nuttiness, the mussels being particularly well seasoned yet delicate. After a short wait, we were brought our mains: roasted duck pho and a bun cha combo. The bun cha combo contained beautifully crisp spring rolls, succulent meatballs and a mix of salad while the gargantuan pho also went down a treat – careful with the extra chillies though, they very nearly killed me. To finish, we have ice cream and an interesting fruit salad with jackfruit and sugar palm seeds, followed by a classic Vietnamese coffee.
If you’re looking to try Vietnamese food in Prague or fancied something a little different during a trip to the Czech capital, we highly recommend Madame Lyn for a reasonably priced experience.
