Just a stone’s throw away from Vienna’s iconic Karlskirche and the Third Man sewer, you’ll notice a square and what looks like a mini farm, a sign of things to come in the harvest to table restaurant Heuer am Karlplatz where the dishes are seasonal, delicious and undeniably Viennese. Not only are the restaurant and its chef Stefan Koprax among the best in the city, Heuer am Karlplatz also know how to fix an excellent drink while the urban farm shows just what is possible with city food production.
Upon our visit to Heuer am Karlplatz, we walk to our table and marvel at the various jars they have stored pickling and fermenting on the shelves. Not fancying anything alcoholic to drink, we get a couple of chilled tea and tuck into our delicious pumpkin soup to heat us up from the winter chill – an Austrian must. For mains, we get the Viennese classic chicken schnitzel and potato salad, which was undoubtedly the best we had in the city, all for a reasonable price.
While we felt some Viennese restaurants were all talk, Heuer am Karlplatz is a unique eating experience in Vienna that we highly recommend to foodies visiting the city.
