While people flock from all over the world to Valencia to sample its gastronomic colossi of paella and horchata, there’s no need to limit oneself to local cuisine on a trip there, with ambitious foodie migrants making their way to the city to show off their home cuisines. One very notable example of this is Venezuelan food in Valencia, while Peruvian, Colombian and Ecuadorian restaurants also add to the city’s culinary landscape.
Full Arepa Gourmet is a fantastic and very affordable introduction to Venezuelan cuisine in the Spanish city, specialising in arepas – pre-Columbus corn breads from Venezuela. There’s a wide range of fillings to choose from, ranging from delicious hard Venezuelan cheeses to pulled beef and pork, while the arepas themselves come fried or roasted. Whatever you choose, you’ll be in for a treat, but if you’re struggling with the choice, ask for the Arepa On Fyah. Arepas have a somewhat sweet taste to them, which is complimented beautifully by melted cheese, pulled meats and guacamole. Don’t forget to order a side order of tequeños (cheese sticks in pastry) either!
Although it’s a little out of the centre, this is unpretentious, honest comfort food at its best and a good idea for those looking for good food at reasonable prices. They deliver too!
